The User Services department of HPC@UNM is a bridge between users and the Systems Department. It is best thought of as an "on-ramp" to using HPC. It simplifies the use of HPC at UNM by providing:

Help Desk

Overview:
HPC@UNM offers a help desk for resolving issues in high performance computing. Service is available 8 AM - 5 PM Mountain Time Monday-Friday. The help desk covers a range of problems including debugging, logins and passwords, hardware maintenance, numerical libraries, software packages, run times, and configurations for special requests. To speed service for you, all help requests are via email.

How to Request Help:
There are two equally fast ways to request help:

  1. Visit http://www.hpc.unm.edu/help/
  2. Send email to help@hpc.unm.edu

Help requests should always include your name and email address, machine, brief overview of the problem, results from replicating the problem, and preferably a copy of the text from the results.

Expected Replies:
The requestor should expect a reply within 8 working hours. Often, the fastest resolutions of problems happen when the responder and requestor work together as a team to resolve issues.

Consultation

Overview:
User Services can be considered a consulting service for special projects. When new projects require a unique configuration, the user services department will convene a team. The user may present the problem to the team and work together on a solution.

How to Request Consultation:
There are two equally fast ways to request help:

  1. Visit http://www.hpc.unm.edu/help/
  2. Send email to help@hpc.unm.edu
